Statement of Collective Liberation from the Premier Ultimate League

In the spirit of the Premier Ultimate League’s mission to achieve equity in the sport of ultimate, we would like to recognize the current state of equity in the broader national and global context for Championship Weekend.

To achieve equity in the sport of ultimate by increasing accessibility to the sport for and visibility of women, transgender, intersex, non-binary, genderqueer, and genderfluid people through high-quality competition, leadership experiences, and community partnerships. Our league strives for gender, racial, and economic diversity in the sport of ultimate.

As we have the privilege of hosting four teams and fans in Madison, we want to acknowledge that the rights and freedoms of many Americans continue to come under threat. There are challenges to the lives and self-determination of trans people. There have been limitations on the bodily autonomy of pregnant people and people who could become pregnant. Immigrant communities have been imperiled by deportations, raids, and violence. The ongoing international humanitarian crises in Gaza, Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo speak to the need for peace, human rights, and liberation. Even beyond these situations, many other groups face attack based on their identities and beliefs.

We come together this weekend to stand for equity and inclusion. Now, just as it ever was, we must extend our reach beyond our immediate circles to make sure the most vulnerable in our country and our global community have the support they need to survive and thrive. As we bear witness to these many tragedies, we must come together to stand up for justice and the collective liberation of all people.

Our action, our joy, and our work together as a broader community can help bring us forward into a future where people of all identities can be free to their authentic selves.
