The PUL is Coming to Pittsburgh!
The Pittsburgh Thunderbirds, in partnership with the Premier Ultimate League (PUL), Indianapolis Red, and the Pittsburgh ultimate community, are proud to announce the launch of a brand-new event: The Premier Cup, presented by Two Frays Brewery.
Taking place on Saturday, May 16 at 12:00 PM at Highmark Stadium, the Premier Cup will showcase Pittsburgh’s top amateur women’s and non-binary ultimate athletes as they take on the professional PUL team, Indianapolis Red. The matchup marks a first-of-its-kind event in Pittsburgh, bringing elite women’s ultimate to a premier stage in a historic setting.
“This is a major step forward for growing the women’s game in Pittsburgh,” said Andrew Gardner, General Manager of the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds. “We’re creating a platform for elite local talent to compete against professionals, while showing fans just how exciting and high-level this sport truly is.”
The event will be live-streamed and feature a full game day experience, including music, prizes, giveaways, and in-game entertainment. Beer and concessions will be available for purchase, making the Premier Cup an accessible and exciting outing for fans of all ages.
Tickets are on sale now, and all Pittsburgh Thunderbirds season ticket members will receive complimentary access to the Premier Cup as part of their plan. Kids 12 and under are free, making it an easy, family-friendly experience for the entire community.
Beyond the competition, the Premier Cup represents a larger vision for the future of ultimate in Pittsburgh. The long-term goal of the initiative is to demonstrate the viability and support for women’s professional ultimate in the region, with hopes of attracting investment to establish a Pittsburgh-based PUL franchise.
